Faith

IHM promotes an environment in which the teachings of Jesus are proclaimed and lived as basic core values. Through scripture, commandments, sacraments, liturgy and prayer, IHM helps students in kindergarten through 8th grade build a strong Christian foundation. While the family is essential in building this foundation, the school takes an active supporting role by enriching the students' knowledge and worship of God and promoting love and care of their neighbors. Faith is fostered through a Prayer Partner program, Mass preparation and Outreach programs.

The Prayer Partner program pairs younger students with older students for special outreach activities throughout the year. Students also are encouraged to pray daily for their prayer partners.

Mass preparation helps students gain greater understanding of the Liturgy. Each class takes turns preparing the Mass; they decide on the prayer intentions, are the readers, gift bearers and sit in front of the church to lead the songs. Every student participates.

IHM Outreach programs encourage social awareness and Christian love for all people.

Parent Activities

IHM parents are welcomed to be as active within the school as their children are. And the opportunities for parents to become involved are many and varied.

Room Parents work directly with teachers, meeting their classes' special needs. Chaperones accompany students on field trips. Lunch servers help prep and serve lunch. Parents and their families already familiar with the inner workings of IHM pair up with parents and families new to the school in our "Family-to-Family program." And the Parent Prayer Group, which meets bimonthly, spends time together in prayer and quiet reflection of God's many blessings and challenges in our lives. The Booster Club promotes, encourages and supports interest and participation in IHM's athletic program. The Community Relations Committee promotes IHM internally and externally, through various media outlets and special projects.

And of course, there's the Parent Teacher Organization. It's a vital and dynamic group within which parents, teachers, and staff work together to provide students with a positive educational experience. The PTO serves the school community by providing a pool of volunteer time and talent for many annual events and activities. And in addition to supporting the school's intrinsic needs, the PTO also leads many fundraising efforts. The group's Executive Committee plans and coordinates school activities, social events and fund-raising projects throughout the year. Membership in the PTO is automatic for parents, teachers, and staff.

TRACS (Triad Region Area Catholic Schools)

IHM School is a proud member of the TRACS foundation, whose purpose is to work toward "one Catholic Community."

TRACS oversees the annual giving campaigns at each school and then allocates funds raised during the school year. Although the members of the six Triad Catholic School communities work collectively in the Annual Giving Campaign, each school is responsible for setting a monetary goal, raising the designated amount, and deciding which of the school's programs and projects need the funds. Pledges designated by IHM parents, parishioners or friends of IHM go directly to IHM School. At IHM, TRACS funds are used for tuition assistance, program and facility improvements, continuing education and community outreach - all at IHM School.

(Pre-K) Eagle's Nest Program

On September 4, IHM School opens a new kindergarten readiness program called the Eagle's Nest. The five-day-a-week program will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. daily and be held at IHM Church's childcare wing at 4145 Johnson St., High Point.

The program is designed to provide four and five year olds a firm foundation for success in kindergarten and into their primary years. Children must be 4 by Oct. 16, 2007, and potty trained to apply for admissions. Class size is limited to 20 students.

The Eagle's Nest will be professionally staffed by a team of two teachers: one with a degree in child and family development and the other with a degree and certification in elementary education.

Enrichment activities include weekly Spanish, art and music classes taught by IHM School teachers and monthly "Journey with Jesus" sessions with IHM's Priests. Also, there will be monthly Tumblebunnies classes at High Point Gymnastics Academy, and visits from the "Creature Teacher" and the High Point Public Library's Bookmobile. Field trips and regular use of the classroom's computers will also be an integral part of the Eagle's Nest.

For more information about the Eagle's Nest, call IHM School at 336-887-2613, or download a fact sheet by clicking here. To apply for admissions, download the application form here and the developmental profile form here and submit them to IHM School as directed.
