A Message from our Principal

Welcome to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School. Thank you for taking time to explore our site to learn more about our vibrant, faith-filled school community.

IHM provides an educational environment that inspires academic achievement, fosters spiritual growth, and celebrates the individual. Teachers, administrators, students, and parents at IHM partner to sustain a nurturing, supportive community. Our students receive a well-rounded, highly competitive, and individually challenging academic experience, grounded in the virtue-centered Catholic intellectual tradition and Salesian spirituality.

Led by the example of our teachers and parents, who share their many gifts with our school community, students are inspired to use the knowledge, skills, and moral tenets they acquire at IHM to share God’s message with others. Our graduates succeed far beyond our school because they are confident in their intellectual abilities, secure in their sense of purpose, and committed to improving the world as moral and ethical people.

We strive at IHM to demonstrate the respect, compassion, inclusion, empathy, forgiveness, and generosity that Jesus showed to all people. This includes cultivating an educational environment that encourages and supports intellectual, social, academic, and faith diversity, while remaining true to our Catholic identity and IHM traditions. As Early Childhood and Lower School students discover self-identity within our Catholic community, we emphasize that all people are made in the image and likeness of God and encourage students to celebrate both our similarities and differences for the richness each of us adds to our community. This message is echoed in the Upper School through lessons and activities that reinforce the importance of expressing one’s viewpoint with respect and sensitivity, as well as always seeing the best in others. As we look toward the future, we continue to explore pathways for expanding our perspectives and sharing the word of God.

Academics

Immaculate Heart of Mary School has built a reputation of academic excellence, providing a rigorous, top-notch education that develops students into lifelong learners and leaders. Our highly qualified, passionate faculty and staff strive to challenge and encourage each student – mindfully meeting them where they are and helping them take the next steps in their academic development. Our academic curriculum, which aligns with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, National Standards and Diocesan objectives and values, provides a strong foundation for the future – and through diverse course offerings, technology-enhanced classrooms and fun, experiential learning activities, we aim to bring the concepts taught within the classroom walls to life.

Student Life

IHM offers a wide variety of in-school and extracurricular activities for all grade levels as part of a well-rounded education. There is something for everybody and we encourage our students to get involved. Activities may change from year-to-year, and are offered to enrich our students’ interests, physical abilities, and God-given talents. We believe this provides for a well-rounded experience and the best environment for our students to grow and strive to become the best versions of themselves.

Athletics

We believe that strong futures start with strong foundations, and we’re passionate about building them. Combining Catholic values with community, leadership, reverence and service, our athletic program lays a foundation that serves students far beyond their time at IHM. Our sport and game offerings aim to promote a healthy lifestyle, teach essential teamwork, leadership and goal-setting skills, encourage self-discipline, and develop a sense of humility and joy in both victory and defeat. As students learn to cope with adversity and disappointment outside the classroom walls – and learn to appreciate the gifts of others along the way – we pray it reinforces the values of determination and teamwork in every sphere of life.
